Yarnell (pronounced yar-NEL) is a small, unincorporated community located in Sawyer County, Wisconsin, in the United States. An "unincorporated community" means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially a city or town with its own local government. Instead, it's part of larger towns nearby. Yarnell is found within the towns of Couderay and Edgewater. It is about 7.5 miles (12.1 km) southwest of the village of Couderay.
The Story of Yarnell
Yarnell has a short but interesting past. It was officially recognized as a community when a post office was opened there in 1915. A post office is a place where people can send and receive mail. This post office served the local residents for many years.
How Yarnell Got Its Name
The community of Yarnell was named after a family who were among the first settlers in the area. These early families helped to build and shape the community. The post office continued to operate until 1933, when it was closed down. Even though the post office is gone, the name Yarnell remains.
