The Yarrenyty Arltere Artists are a group of talented Indigenous artists. They come from a place called Yarrenyty Arltere Town Camp in Mparntwe, Australia. They are famous for making amazing soft sculptures. These sculptures are often made from recycled blankets and other materials.
About the Artists
The idea for Yarrenyty Arltere Artists started in 2000. It began in Yarrenyty Arltere Town Camp, also known as Hidden Valley. This camp is on the west side of Alice Springs. The art group officially began in 2008.
Some well-known artists from this group include Dulcie Sharpe, Rhonda Sharpe, and Marlene Rubuntja. Their artworks are shown in big art galleries across Australia. These include the Queensland Gallery of Modern Art and the National Gallery of Victoria. Their art has also been part of major art events. These events include the Biennale of Sydney and Tarnanthi.
Awards and Recognition
The Yarrenyty Arltere Artists have won many important awards. These awards celebrate their unique art.
- 2012 – They received a Highly Commended award. This was at the National Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Art Award.
- 2013 – Rhonda Sharpe, one of their artists, won an award. She won the Wandjuk Marika 3D Memorial Award. This was also at the National Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Art Award.
- 2015 – Rhonda Sharpe won another award. She received the 3D Award at the National Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Art Award.
- 2016 – The group won the Vincent Lingiari Art Award.
- 2017 – They were asked to create art for the NGV Triennial. This is a big art show at the National Gallery of Victoria.
- 2018 – Their artwork, In Our Hands, 2018, was shown. It was part of the 21st Sydney Biennial.
