Ye Jiangchuan (born November 20, 1960) is a famous Chinese chess player. He holds the title of Grandmaster, which is the highest title a chess player can earn. The world chess organization, FIDE, gave him this title in 1993. He was the second Chinese player to become a Grandmaster. On January 1, 2000, he became the first Chinese player to reach an elo rating of over 2600. An Elo rating is a number that shows how strong a chess player is.

Ye Jiangchuan's Chess Journey
Early Life and National Champion
Ye Jiangchuan was born in Wuxi, Jiangsu, China. He started learning chess when he was 17 years old. Just three years later, at age 20, he became the national chess champion of China. He won the Chinese Chess Championship seven times in total. These wins were in 1981, 1984, 1986, 1987, 1989, 1994, and 1996.
Playing for China
Ye Jiangchuan has played for his country in many big chess events. He took part in the Chess Olympiads 12 times. The Chess Olympiad is a major international team competition. In his first Olympiad in 1982, he won a silver medal for his individual performance. His team's best result at an Olympiad was in 1998 in Elista. There, he played on the top board, and the Chinese team finished in fifth place. He was also part of the team that won the Asian Team Chess Championships four times.
Top Tournaments and Rankings
Ye Jiangchuan won the Dato' Tan Chin Nam Cup in 1995 and 1999. He was also a co-champion of the same cup in 2001. He did very well in the 2001 FIDE World Championship. He reached the fourth round, placing among the top 9-16 players. He also made it to the quarter-finals in the FIDE World Cup in both 2000 and 2002.
Ye Jiangchuan was one of the top chess players in the world. His highest world ranking was 17th in October 2000. He stayed in the top 25 players from 2000 to 2004.
Coaching Career
Since 2000, Ye Jiangchuan has played less often. This is because he became the main coach for the Chinese national chess teams. He coached both the men's and women's teams. In 2005, he received the title of FIDE Senior Trainer. This title recognizes his skill and experience in coaching chess players.
China Chess League
Ye Jiangchuan plays for the Beijing chess club. This club is part of the China Chess League (CCL).
