Discovering the Yent Mound
The Yent Mound was built by people from the Deptford culture. They lived in this area around the start of the Current Era. This means the mound is about 2,000 years old!
A scientist named William Sears studied the Yent Mound. He also looked at objects found at other nearby sites, like the Pierce Mound and the Crystal River Mounds. Based on what he found, he described something called the "Yent complex."

The Yent complex was linked to a larger group of ancient people known as the Hopewell tradition. The Hopewell people lived in different parts of North America. They were known for their trade networks.
