Yogen Früz was started in 1986 by two brothers. Their names are Michael Serruya and Aaron Serruya. They opened their first store in August 1986. This first store was in Thornhill, Ontario, Canada. It was located inside The Promenade Shopping Centre.

The store quickly became popular. It offered frozen yogurt and shakes. These were mixed with fresh fruit. Within a year, the company started opening new stores. These new stores were run by other people, called franchises. By 1989, Yogen Früz had opened its 100th store.

In December 2005, another company bought Yogen Früz. This company was called International Franchise Corp. Today, Yogen Früz is the largest company that sells frozen yogurt. It has over 1,300 locations. These stores are in more than 20 countries. The company wants to be known for healthy food choices.

In 2016, Yogen Früz celebrated 30 years in business. They held a contest for customers. People could design a new cup for the brand. The winner's design was featured on the company's website. They also received free frozen yogurt for five years.

Today, Yogen Früz sells special frozen yogurt. It has healthy ingredients called probiotics. They offer both yogurt mixed with fruit and soft-serve yogurt. They also have smoothies made with or without dairy. You can choose low-fat or non-fat yogurt for your cup.

How Yogen Früz Works

Yogen Früz often uses a special way to grow. They work with "master franchisees." These are people or companies who get the right to open many stores. They can also sell licenses to others to open stores. These agreements usually last 10 to 20 years. The master franchisee must open a certain number of stores each year.

The company also expands in a different way. They partner with other food businesses. This is called "co-branding." Yogen Früz sets up small counters inside existing stores. This allows their products to be sold in more places. As of 2008, these two methods were the main ways Yogen Früz grew its business.

The Serruya brothers first looked to open stores outside of Canada. They did not focus on the United States right away. In the 1980s, there were already many frozen yogurt shops in the U.S. Also, people were not as familiar with yogurt's taste back then. By early 1995, Yogen Früz had 170 stores in Canada. This was 80 percent of the frozen yogurt market there. By 2007, Yogen Früz had over 1,200 stores. These stores were in more than 25 countries, including the United States.

In 2008, the company announced a new look for its stores. This design was for both small and large locations. It could be used in malls or in stand-alone buildings.

In January 2010, a company called Archeology Investments made a deal. They got the rights to open Yogen Früz shops in several Middle Eastern countries. These included Dubai, Oman, Qatar, Bahrain, and Kuwait.
