Yolande of Aragon (also known as Violante of Sicily) was a princess who lived a long time ago. She was the daughter of King Martin I of Sicily. Yolande was born in the Kingdom of Sicily around the year 1400. She later became the Countess of Niebla. She was part of the important House of Barcelona family. A famous person named Eugénie de Montijo, who was the last Empress of France, was one of her descendants.
Early Life and Family
Yolande was the only daughter of King Martin I of Sicily and a noblewoman from Sicily named Agatuccia Pesce. She was born before her parents were officially married. This means she was considered a "legitimized" child.
When she was young, her father sent her and her younger brother, Fadrique, to the royal court in Aragon. They were raised there by the king's mother, Queen Maria de Luna. This happened before her father married Blanche I of Navarre.
Marriages and Children
Yolande was married two times during her life. Her first husband was Enrique Pérez de Guzmán, 2nd Count de Niebla. They married in 1405. However, this marriage did not last and was later ended. They did not have any children together.
Her second marriage was to Martín Fernández de Guzmán. He was the son of Alvár Pérez de Guzmán. With Martín, Yolande had three daughters. Their names were Catalina, Agnes, and Marina.
Yolande of Aragon passed away in 1428 in the Kingdom of Castille.
Notable Descendants
While Yolande had three daughters, one of her most famous descendants was Eugénie de Montijo. Eugénie lived much later, in the 1800s. She became the last Empress of France. This shows how Yolande's family line continued through history.
