The York Factory First Nation is a First Nations community. It is located in northern Manitoba, Canada. In the Cree language, its name is ᑭᐢᒋ ᐚᐢᑳᐦᐃᑲᐣ, Kischi Wáskáhikan. Sometimes, people call it the York Landing First Nation or York Factory Cree Nation.
The main land area for the community is called York Landing. This area is also known as ᑲᐍᒋᐚᓯᐠ, Kawéchiwásik in Cree. It sits on the eastern side of the Nelson River. This spot is about halfway between Lake Winnipeg and Hudson Bay. It is also 116 kilometers away from Thompson, Manitoba.
In 2016, the York Landing area had 443 people living there. There were 138 homes. The community uses the York Landing Airport for travel.

History of York Factory First Nation
How the Community Started
The Swampy Cree people are also known as Maškēkowak or nēhinawak. The people who lived at York Factory, Manitoba, moved to York Landing. This happened after the Hudson's Bay Company closed its York Factory trading post in 1957.
Official Reserve Status
In 1986, the Government of Canada gave 2,390.5 acres (9.674 km²) of land at York Landing to the First Nation. This land became their official reserve. York Landing officially became a reserve in 1989.

Population and Governance
As of August 2013, the York Factory First Nation had 1,239 registered members. Out of these, 456 members lived on the York Landing reserve. The reserve covers 967.40 hectares of land. The community is led by a chief and four councillors.
