Yoshiharu Ueno (上野 良治, Ueno Yoshiharu, born April 21, 1973) is a former Japanese football player. He was a talented midfielder who played for the Japan national team.
Playing for Clubs
Yoshiharu Ueno was born in Saitama, Japan, on April 21, 1973. After studying at Waseda University, he started his professional football career in 1994. He joined a team called Yokohama Marinos, which later became Yokohama F. Marinos.
His Role on the Field
When he first started, Ueno played as an offensive midfielder. This meant he focused on helping his team score goals. But in 1997, he changed his position to a defensive midfielder. In this role, he helped protect his team's goal and stop opponents from scoring. He became a very important player for his team.
Winning Championships
Ueno's team, Yokohama F. Marinos, had a lot of success during his time there. They won the J.League Cup in 2001. They also became champions of the J1 League (Japan's top football league) two times in a row, in 2003 and 2004. Ueno played a big part in these victories. He retired from playing football at the end of the 2007 season.
Playing for Japan
Yoshiharu Ueno also had the honor of playing for his country. On June 6, 2000, he made his first appearance for the Japan national team in a game against Jamaica.
