Yoshinari Takagi (高木 義成, Takagi Yoshinari, born May 20, 1979) is a former Japanese football player. He played as a goalkeeper for several teams during his career.

Playing Career Highlights

Early Days and Tokyo Verdy

Yoshinari Takagi was born in Edogawa, Tokyo, Japan, on May 20, 1979. He started his football journey in youth teams. After leaving Kokushikan University, he joined Verdy Kawasaki in the year 2000. This club played in the J1 League, which is Japan's top football league.

For his first two years, Takagi didn't play in any matches. He was behind other experienced goalkeepers like Kenji Honnami and Shinkichi Kikuchi. But in 2002, he got his chance. He competed with Daijiro Takakuwa for the goalkeeper spot. By the summer of 2002, Takagi became the main goalkeeper for the team.

His team, Tokyo Verdy, achieved a big win in 2004. They won the 2004 Emperor's Cup, a major football tournament in Japan. However, in 2006, the club faced a challenge. They were moved down to the J2 League, which is the second division.

Return to J1 and New Challenges

Tokyo Verdy worked hard and finished second in the J2 League in 2007. This success meant they were promoted back to the J1 League for the 2008 season. But in 2008, the club brought in another goalkeeper, Yoichi Doi. Even though Takagi had been the regular goalkeeper for a long time, he played fewer matches after Doi joined.

In 2009, Takagi decided to move to another J1 League club, Nagoya Grampus. Here, he faced another strong goalkeeper, Seigo Narazaki. Because of this, Takagi didn't get to play many games for Nagoya Grampus either.

Final Years and Retirement

In 2016, Yoshinari Takagi moved to FC Gifu, a club in the J2 League. He became the regular goalkeeper for them that year and played in many matches. However, in 2017, FC Gifu signed a new goalkeeper named Víctor. Takagi did not play any matches in 2017. He decided to retire from professional football at the end of the 2017 season.
