Young Spirit is a cool drum group from Frog Lake, Alberta. They started making music in 2001. They play traditional Cree round dancing songs. The group sings together while hitting hand drums at the same time.

Young Spirit is special because they mix old traditions with new sounds. This type of music is very old and important to the Plains Cree people. They learned it from the Assiniboine people a long time ago, in the late 1800s.

In 2018, Young Spirit was nominated for a Grammy Award! This is a huge award for music. Their album Mewasinsational – Cree Round Dance Songs got the nomination.

Their album Angel Eagle: Cree Round Dance Songs was also nominated for a Juno Award in 2022. The Juno Awards are like the Grammys, but for Canadian music. They were nominated for Traditional Indigenous Artist of the Year.
