Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Bryn Tawe facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Bryn Tawe is a Welsh-language comprehensive school. It is located in Penlan, a part of Swansea, in southwest Wales. This school opened its doors in 2003. It was created to work alongside Ysgol Gyfun Gŵyr. The new school also helped meet the growing need for Welsh-medium education in the area.

When Bryn Tawe first opened, it only welcomed new students. It did not take any students who were already at Ysgol Gyfun Gŵyr. Because of this, the school slowly grew. It reached its full number of students from Years 7 to 11 (ages 11–16) in September 2007. This was with its fifth group of new students. By September 2012, about 900 students were attending the school.

About Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Bryn Tawe

Where is the School Located?

The school is built on a site that has a history of education. Before Bryn Tawe, the same spot was home to Penlan Senior Comprehensive School for boys. Some famous Welsh international rugby players even attended the old school. This shows the area has a strong connection to both education and sports.

What About Sixth Form Studies?

In September 2008, a new partnership began for older students. Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Bryn Tawe teamed up with Ysgol Gyfun Gŵyr. This partnership is for students in the sixth form. Sixth form is usually for students aged 16 to 18. This means students can take classes at both school locations. It gives them more choices for their subjects and studies.
