Yui Horie's Early Life

Yui Horie was born in Tokyo, Japan. When she was younger, she often spent time alone after school. She would play outside until her parents came home from work. In junior high, she joined the volleyball club, but she didn't enjoy it much. She calls her junior high and high school years her "dark era."

As a child, she loved watching the anime series Dirty Pair. She was fascinated by the detective story. She would even act out scenes with a friend and record herself.

In 1995, during her first year of college, Yui Horie tried out for a scholarship. This was at the Japan Voice Acting Institute, a school for voice actors. She trained there for four years. In 1996, she won the Namco Prize at the SME Voice Actor Audition. On August 28, 1996, she and 21 other students formed a group called the Dorikan Club. They were all hoping to become voice actresses.

Her Amazing Career

Starting Out (1997–1999)

While still training, Yui Horie got her first voice acting job in 1997. It was for a Sega Saturn game called Voice Fantasia: Ushinawareta Voice Power. Her first main role in an anime was in 1998's Kurogane Communication. She also sang the theme songs for this show, "My best friend" and "Dear Mama". These songs were her first single.

In 1999, many games were being turned into anime shows. Yui Horie got a big role as Multi, a robot girl, in the anime To Heart.

Growing Success (2000–2003)

In 2000, Yui Horie got the main female role of Naru Narusegawa in the TV anime Love Hina. This show was very popular, selling over a million DVDs. Its success led to more Love Hina projects, like OVAs (original video animations) and games. Yui Horie continued to voice Naru in all of them.

She also formed a music group called Yamato Nadeshiko (やまとなでしこ) with Yukari Tamura. They released two songs, "Mō Hitori no Watashi" in 2000 and "Merry Merrily" in 2001. They also went on a concert tour in 2003.

She also started her weekly radio show, "Horie Yui no Tenshi no Tamago" (堀江由衣の天使のたまご). Her famous catchphrase on the show is "Angel Beam in your Heart!" The show has been running for over 740 episodes!

By 2003, Yui Horie became a very popular singer. Her third album, "Sky", reached the top 10 on the Oricon music charts.

Other Projects
