Yui Mizuno (水野 由結, Mizuno Yui, born June 20, 1999), also known as Yuimetal, is a Japanese musician, singer, and dancer. She was a member of the kawaii metal group Babymetal. This group mixes cute J-pop music with heavy metal sounds. Yui was also part of the idol group Sakura Gakuin. In October 2018, she left Babymetal because of health reasons. The Amuse Inc. company manages her career.

Yui Mizuno's Music Journey

Joining Sakura Gakuin

On August 2, 2010, when Yui Mizuno was 11 years old, she joined Sakura Gakuin. This was an idol group managed by Amuse Inc.. Another future Babymetal member, Moa Kikuchi, joined at the same time. Sakura Gakuin had not yet released its first song.

For their audition, Yui and Moa danced to a song called "Over The Future." This song was by Karen Girl's. Two former members of Karen Girl's, Ayami Mutō and Suzuka Nakamoto, had also recently joined Sakura Gakuin.

Forming Babymetal

Sakura Gakuin members were part of smaller groups called "clubs." Each club had its own music group. Yui and Moa first joined the "Baton Club," which had a music group called Twinklestars.

Later, Yui and Moa became backing singers and dancers. They teamed up with lead singer Suzuka Nakamoto in a "Heavy Music Club." This music group was named Babymetal. Before this club started, none of the three girls knew what heavy metal music was.

Babymetal's Success and Yui's Departure

In 2012, Babymetal became an independent music group. Yui "graduated" from Sakura Gakuin in 2015. After that, she performed only with Babymetal.

Yui and Moa helped write a song called "Song 4." They wrote it together during a bus trip. This song was on the first Babymetal album in 2014. The second Babymetal album, Metal Resistance, came out in 2016.

In May 2018, Yui was not on Babymetal's tour in the United States. Fans wondered why she was missing. A company representing Babymetal said that Yuimetal was still a member. However, she was also not on their European tour in June 2018.

On October 19, 2018, Babymetal announced that Yuimetal would no longer be in the group. She left because of poor health. Yui Mizuno later said that she might try to start a solo music career in the future.

Yui Mizuno's Personal Life

Childhood Dreams

When Yui was in third grade, she was a big fan of Karen Girl's. This was Suzuka Nakamoto's old group. Yui had a dream of joining Karen Girl's. Their music helped her through a difficult time when a family member was very ill.

Karen Girl's later broke up. Yui went to their farewell concert and met all three members. In 2012, Babymetal performed a cover of the Karen Girl's song "Over the Future." Yui said that moment felt like her "dreams came true."

Family and Friends

Yui and her family are close friends with Ayami Mutō and her family. Ayami Mutō was also a member of Karen Girl's and Sakura Gakuin.
