Yui Mizuno (born June 20, 1999) is a Japanese musician, singer, and dancer. She was known by her stage name Yuimetal. She used to be a member of the unique music group Babymetal, which mixes cute pop music with heavy metal. She was also part of the idol group Sakura Gakuin. In October 2018, she left Babymetal because of health reasons. She is managed by the Amuse Inc. company.

Yui Mizuno's Early Life and Career

Joining Sakura Gakuin

Yui Mizuno joined the idol group Sakura Gakuin on August 2, 2010. She was 11 years old at the time. Another future member of Babymetal, Moa Kikuchi, joined at the same time. Sakura Gakuin is a group managed by the Amuse Inc. talent agency.

How Babymetal Started

Sakura Gakuin had smaller groups called "clubs." Each club had its own music. Yui Mizuno and Moa Kikuchi first joined the "Baton Club," which had a music group called Twinklestars. Later, they teamed up with Suzuka Nakamoto to form the "Heavy Music Club." This club's music group was named Babymetal. Interestingly, none of the three girls knew what heavy metal music was before they started this group!

Babymetal's Journey to Fame

In 2012, Babymetal became its own independent music group. Yui Mizuno "graduated" from Sakura Gakuin in 2015. After that, she focused only on performing with Babymetal. Yui and Moa even helped write a song called "Song 4" for Babymetal's first album in 2014. They wrote it together during a bus trip. Babymetal's second album, Metal Resistance, came out in 2016.

Leaving Babymetal

In May 2018, Yui Mizuno was not with Babymetal for their tour in the United States. Fans wondered why she was absent. A company representing Babymetal said that Yuimetal was still a member but not on that tour. However, she also missed their European tour in June 2018. On October 19, 2018, Babymetal officially announced that Yuimetal would no longer be a member. This was due to her poor health. Yui Mizuno later shared that she might try a solo music career in the future.

Yui Mizuno's Personal Interests

A Dream Come True

When Yui Mizuno was in third grade, she was a big fan of a group called Karen Girl's. Suzuka Nakamoto was also in that group. Yui had a dream of joining them. Their music helped her through a tough time when a family member was very ill. Karen Girl's later broke up, and Yui went to their farewell concert. She even met all three members. In 2012, Babymetal performed a cover of a Karen Girl's song called "Over the Future." Yui said that moment felt like her "dreams came true."

Family and Friends

Yui and her family are good friends with Ayami Mutō and her family. Ayami Mutō was also a member of Karen Girl's and later joined Yui in Sakura Gakuin. Yui Mizuno has two brothers, one older and one two years younger than her.
