Yuichi Mizutani (水谷 雄一, Mizutani Yuichi, born May 26, 1980) is a former Japanese football player. He played as a goalkeeper for several teams in Japan's professional leagues, including Shonan Bellmare, Avispa Fukuoka, and Kyoto Sanga FC.

Yuichi Mizutani's Football Journey

Yuichi Mizutani was born in Tokyo, Japan, on May 26, 1980. He started his professional football career in August 1999.

Early Career and First Teams

Mizutani joined J1 League club Bellmare Hiratsuka in 1999. He made his first appearance in October 1999. However, the team was moved down to the J2 League in 2000. During 2000, he played in many matches as a goalkeeper for Shonan Bellmare.

In 2001, Mizutani moved to Avispa Fukuoka. He did not play in any matches that year, and the club was also moved down to the J2 League in 2002. For a short time in 2002, he played for Cerezo Osaka on loan, but he did not appear in any games there either.

Becoming a Regular Goalkeeper

Mizutani returned to Avispa Fukuoka in 2003. He started playing more often and became a regular goalkeeper from 2004. His strong play helped Avispa Fukuoka get promoted back to the J1 League in 2006.

In 2007, he joined Kashiwa Reysol. He found it hard to get playing time there.

Time at Kyoto Sanga FC

In 2008, Mizutani moved to Kyoto Sanga FC. He became a key player and played in many matches as their regular goalkeeper. Towards the end of 2010, he played less, and the club was moved down to the J2 League in 2011. However, he became the regular goalkeeper again from 2011.

Final Years in Football

In 2013, Mizutani returned to Avispa Fukuoka in the J2 League. He started as the regular goalkeeper but got injured in June. After his injury, he played very few matches.

His last team was Kataller Toyama in the J2 League, which he joined in 2014. He played regularly at the beginning of the season. However, from June onwards, he did not play in any matches. Yuichi Mizutani decided to retire from professional football at the end of the 2014 season.
