Yusu Wang facts for kids

Yusu Wang is a brilliant Chinese computer scientist and mathematician. She is a professor at the Halıcıoğlu Data Science Institute at the University of California, San Diego. Her work involves special areas of computer science called computational geometry and computational topology. These fields use computers to study shapes, spaces, and how things are connected.

Her Journey in Science

Early Studies

Yusu Wang started her higher education at Tsinghua University in China, where she graduated in 1998. She then moved to the United States to continue her studies. In 2004, she earned her Ph.D. in computer science from Duke University. For her main research project, she studied how to use geometry and topology to understand the shapes of proteins. Her professors, Pankaj K. Agarwal and Herbert Edelsbrunner, helped guide her research.

Becoming a Professor

After finishing her Ph.D., Yusu Wang did more research at Stanford University with Professor Leonidas J. Guibas. In 2005, she became a professor at the Ohio State University. She worked there for many years and became a full professor in 2017. In 2020, she moved to her current position at the University of California, San Diego, where she continues to teach and do important research.

Helping the Science Community

Professor Wang also helps the wider science community. She is part of the groups that decide which articles get published in important science magazines like the SIAM Journal on Computing and the Journal of Computational Geometry. In 2019, she also helped organize a big meeting called the Symposium on Computational Geometry with another scientist, Gill Barequet.
