Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Yusu Wang is a smart Chinese computer scientist and mathematician. She works as a professor at the Halıcıoğlu Data Science Institute at the University of California, San Diego. Her work helps us understand shapes and spaces using computers. She studies things like how to simplify complex lines and how to measure distances between shapes.

Her Journey in Science

Yusu Wang finished her first university degree at Tsinghua University in 1998. She then moved to the United States to continue her studies.

She earned her Ph.D. (a very advanced degree) in computer science from Duke University in 2004. For her Ph.D., she wrote a big paper called a dissertation. It was about using math and computer methods to study how proteins are shaped.

After her Ph.D., she did more research at Stanford University. In 2005, she became a professor at the Ohio State University. She worked hard and became a full professor there in 2017. Later, in 2020, she moved to her current job at the University of California, San Diego.

Helping the Science Community

Yusu Wang also helps the world of computer science in other ways. She is part of the team that reviews articles for important science magazines. These magazines include the SIAM Journal on Computing and the Journal of Computational Geometry.

In 2019, she helped organize a big meeting called the Symposium on Computational Geometry. She was a co-chair for the program, which means she helped decide what research papers would be presented at the event.
