Zaccharie Risacher (born 8 April 2005) is a French professional basketball player. He plays for the Atlanta Hawks in the National Basketball Association (NBA). He was the very first player chosen in the 2024 NBA draft.

Early Life and Youth Basketball

Zaccharie Risacher was born on April 8, 2005, in Málaga, Spain. His father, Stéphane Risacher, was also a professional basketball player. He played in Málaga from 2002 to 2006.

When Zaccharie was young, his family moved to Lyon, France. He started playing club basketball at Élan Chalon when he was just three and a half years old. He later joined the youth program of ASVEL Basket in August 2020. He mostly played for ASVEL's youth team in LNB Espoirs. This is a French league for basketball players under 21 years old.

Professional Career Highlights

Starting with LDLC ASVEL (2021–2024)

Risacher played his first game with ASVEL's main team in 2021. This was in an LNB Élite match, which is France's top basketball league. He also played his first game in the EuroLeague on January 18, 2022. The EuroLeague is a major basketball competition for clubs across Europe.

Playing for JL Bourg (2023–2024)

On June 16, 2023, Risacher signed his first professional contract with ASVEL. Right after, he was loaned to another top French team, JL Bourg, for the 2023–24 season. On November 29, 2023, he was picked to play in the LNB All-Star Game.

Risacher also played for JL Bourg in the 2023–24 EuroCup. This is another big European basketball competition. His team made it all the way to the finals but lost to Paris Basketball. In April, Risacher won the EuroCup Rising Star award. He was almost 19 years old, making him one of the youngest players ever to win it.

On May 12, 2024, Risacher was named the Best Young Player of the 2023–24 LNB Élite season. He averaged about 10 points and almost 4 rebounds per game.

Joining the Atlanta Hawks (2024–Present)

On April 22, 2024, Risacher announced he would enter the 2024 NBA draft. The NBA confirmed his entry on May 2.

On June 26, 2024, the Atlanta Hawks chose Risacher as the first overall pick in the 2024 NBA draft. This was a big moment! He became the second French player in a row to be picked first. Victor Wembanyama was chosen first in the year before. Risacher is also the fifth international player to be the top pick.

Two other French players, Alex Sarr and Tidjane Salaün, were also picked in the top 10 of the same draft. This made France the first foreign country to have at least three players chosen in the top 10 of any NBA draft.

On July 6, 2024, Risacher officially signed with the Hawks. Six days later, he played his first game in the 2024 NBA Summer League. He scored 18 points in that game. Risacher made his official NBA regular-season debut on October 23. On November 6, he scored a career-high 33 points in a game against the New York Knicks.

Playing for His Country

Risacher played for the France under-17 basketball team in the 2022 FIBA Under-17 Basketball World Cup. He helped France win the bronze medal in that tournament. He averaged over 10 points and 4 rebounds per game.

In February 2024, Risacher was chosen to play for the France senior team. This was for their qualifying games for EuroBasket 2025.
