Zaida Cantera de Castro was born on June 6, 1977. She is a Spanish former military officer and a politician. She is a member of the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE). She has served as a representative for Madrid in the Spanish Parliament (Congress of Deputies) for several terms.
Zaida Cantera's Military Career
Zaida Cantera began her military journey in 1997. She joined the General Military Academy. She specialized in Signals at the Engineers and Signals School. In 2003, she graduated and became a lieutenant.
She also earned two master's degrees. These degrees focused on Networks and Information Systems, and Communication and Information Systems for Security and Defense.
Cantera was part of the Signals Unit of the Armored Brigade. She took part in international missions. These included peacekeeping efforts in Kosovo and Lebanon. She rose through the ranks to become a major in the Army. In 2014, she decided to leave the Armed Forces. She officially left in 2015. Cantera shared her experiences and challenges in a book called No, mi general. She wrote it with Irene Lozano.
Zaida Cantera's Political Career
On December 20, 2015, Zaida Cantera was chosen to be a member of the Congress of Deputies. This is like being a representative in the Spanish Parliament. She was on the list for the PSOE in Madrid.
When it was time to vote for Mariano Rajoy to become prime minister, she was one of 15 socialist members who did not follow their party's instructions. She joined the PSOE party on January 5, 2017. This allowed her to vote in the party's internal elections. She voted to support Pedro Sánchez.
