Zaitegi (pronounced Zai-TEH-gee), also known as Záitegui in Spanish, is a very small village in Spain. It is located in the beautiful Basque Country, which is a special region in northern Spain. Zaitegi is part of a larger area called Zigoitia and is in the Álava province. In 2020, only 39 people lived there, making it a very quiet and peaceful place. Zaitegi is also known as a council (or concejo in Spanish), which is a type of local government area in some parts of Spain.
Where is Zaitegi Located?
Zaitegi is situated about 14 kilometers (which is about 8.7 miles) north-northwest of Vitoria-Gasteiz. Vitoria-Gasteiz is the capital city of the Álava province and also the capital of the Basque Country. This means Zaitegi is close enough to a bigger city for supplies and services, but far enough to enjoy nature and a quiet village life.
What is a Council?
In some parts of Spain, like Álava, a "council" or "concejo" is a small local area. It's usually made up of a village or a few small villages. These councils have their own local government, which helps manage things for the people who live there. It's a way for small communities to have a say in how their area is run.
