 Rhodesia (1960)

Zambia first joined the Olympic Games in 1968 under its current name. Since then, it has taken part in almost every Summer Olympic Games. The only time it missed was in 1976. Before 1968, Zambia competed under different names. In 1964, it was known as Northern Rhodesia. In 1960, it competed as Rhodesia. Zambia has never sent athletes to the Winter Olympic Games.

Zambian athletes have proudly won three medals in three different sports. The first medal was a bronze. Boxer Keith Mwila won it in 1984 at the 1984 Summer Olympics. He competed in the light flyweight boxing category. Twelve years later, in 1996, Samuel Matete won a silver medal. He earned it in the men's 400 metres hurdles race. The third medal was a bronze. Muzala Samukonga won it in the men's 400 metres sprint at the 2024 Summer Olympics.

The National Olympic Committee of Zambia (NOCZ) helps organize sports in the country. It was created in 1951. The International Olympic Committee officially recognized it in 1963.
