Zambrano is a town and a special area called a municipality in northern Colombia. It is part of the Bolívar Department, which is like a state or province.
This town was started on January 20, 1770, by a person named Don Alvaro de Zambrano. Before that, the land belonged to the native Malibùes people. Zambrano is about two and a half hours away from Cartagena, Bolivar, which is the main city of the Bolívar Department.
Zambrano played a big part in Colombia's fight for freedom. This was during the War for Independence from the Kingdom of Spain. Many brave soldiers from Zambrano helped Simon Bolivar and the movement to make Colombia an independent country. Simon Bolivar himself even stayed one night in Zambrano, hosted by the Campillo Family!
Today, the main way people in Zambrano make a living is through farming. This is helped a lot by its location near the Magdalena River, which is a very important river in Colombia.
