Zapotiltic is a town and a larger area called a municipality in the southern part of Jalisco, a state in Mexico. It is about 115 kilometers (71 miles) south of Guadalajara, a major city. In 2020, the municipality of Zapotiltic had a population of 33,713 people.
What Does Zapotiltic Mean?
The name Zapotiltic comes from an ancient language called Náhuatl. It combines two words: Tzápotl, which means "zapote" (a type of fruit), and tlíitic, meaning "black." So, Zapotiltic means "place of the black zapotes." This name was chosen because many black zapote fruits used to grow there.
