Zapp's is a popular brand of potato chips made in the United States. These chips are special because they are kettle-cooked. This means they are cooked in small batches, which makes them extra crunchy. Zapp's chips are cooked in peanut oil, which gives them a unique taste. Most other chip companies use vegetable oil.

Zapp's chips are known for their exciting flavors. Many of these flavors celebrate the Cajun culture from Louisiana. Some popular ones include "Spicy Cajun Crawtator," "Sour Cream and Creole Onion," and "Cajun Dill Gator-tators." Other tasty flavors are "Hotter 'N Hot Jalapeño," "Mesquite BBQ," and the very popular "Voodoo" chips. They even made a special chip for Mardi Gras once!

The Story of Zapp's Chips

How Zapp's Started

Zapp's was started by a man named Ron Zappe. He studied engineering in college. After some challenges with his earlier businesses, he moved to Louisiana. There, he decided to start a potato chip company in 1985.

Ron Zappe's first chip was the "Cajun Crawtator." It was one of the first spicy Cajun-flavored chips in the country. Zapp's also made "Tiger Tators" for Louisiana State University. They even created "Who Dat?" chips to cheer on the New Orleans Saints football team.

Popular Flavors and Growth

One of Zapp's most famous flavors is "Voodoo." This flavor was created in 2008 by Kevin Holden, who was a manager at the company. Zapp's grew over the years. In 1993, they bought the Dirty Chip Company. Later, in 2006, they also bought the California Chip Company. Ron Zappe and his chips became quite famous. They were even featured on The Oprah Winfrey Show in 1997.

Zapp's Joins Utz Quality Foods

Ron Zappe passed away on June 1, 2010. The company was then sold to Utz Quality Foods in April 2011. Utz Quality Foods is another big snack company. Zapp's is now a part of Utz, but its chips are still made and enjoyed by many people.
