Zephyrogomphus is a group of dragonflies known as a genus. These dragonflies belong to the family Gomphidae. They are often called hunters because of how they catch their food.
These dragonflies are usually medium-sized. They have a dark brown body with markings that are not very bright.
Where Do Zephyrogomphus Dragonflies Live?
The two types of Zephyrogomphus dragonflies live in different parts of Australia. One kind is found in south-western Australia. The other lives in north-eastern Queensland. This means they are found on opposite sides of the huge Australian continent!
What Types of Zephyrogomphus Are There?
There are two main species, or types, within the Zephyrogomphus genus:
- Zephyrogomphus lateralis - This species is known as the lilac hunter.
- Zephyrogomphus longipositor - This one is called the rainforest hunter.
