Zhou Qi (born January 16, 1996) is a professional basketball player from China. He plays as a center for the Beijing Ducks in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA). Zhou has been an important member of the China men's national basketball team since 2014. He helped his team win gold medals at the 2015 FIBA Asia Championship and the 2018 Asian Games.
Zhou started his professional career with the Xinjiang Flying Tigers in the CBA. In 2016, he was chosen by the Houston Rockets in the NBA draft. He played for the Rockets for two seasons before returning to China. Later, he also played in Australia's NBL for the South East Melbourne Phoenix.

Zhou's Early Basketball Journey
Zhou Qi began playing basketball at Fuxin Basketball School in China in 2005. He quickly became known for his skills.
Rising Star in Youth Tournaments
In 2011, Zhou led China's youth team to a big win in Turkey. He showed amazing talent at the TBF International Under-16 Tournament. In one game, he scored 41 points, grabbed 28 rebounds, and blocked 15 shots. He then helped his team win the final game with 30 points, 17 rebounds, and 8 blocks.
A year later, at the 2012 Albert Schweitzer Tournament, Zhou continued to impress. This tournament is a place where top young international players compete. He averaged 16.2 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 4.2 blocks per game. These performances made many people notice his potential.
In January 2014, Zhou joined the Xinjiang Flying Tigers. He was too young to play right away, but he was ready for the 2014–15 season.
Professional Career Highlights
Zhou Qi has played for several teams throughout his professional career. He has shown his skills in both China and other countries.
Playing for the Xinjiang Flying Tigers
Zhou started playing for the Xinjiang Flying Tigers in the CBA in the 2014–15 season. He quickly became a key player for the team.
In his first two seasons, Zhou was the best in the CBA at blocking shots. He averaged over 3 blocks per game. He also shot very well, making 65 percent of his two-point shots. In the 2016–17 season, Zhou averaged 16.0 points and 10.0 rebounds. He was also named the CBA's Defensive Player of the Year. That season, he helped the Xinjiang Flying Tigers win their first-ever championship!
Time with the Houston Rockets
After his success in China, Zhou Qi entered the 2016 NBA draft. He was chosen by the Houston Rockets as the 43rd pick. He had a very long wingspan, which is great for a basketball player.
Zhou signed with the Rockets in July 2017. He played his first NBA game on October 21, 2017. He scored his first NBA points on November 1, 2017. During his time with the Rockets, he also played for their minor league team, the Rio Grande Valley Vipers. The Rockets decided to waive Zhou in December 2018.
Returning to China and Playing in Australia
After his time in the NBA, Zhou returned to the Xinjiang Flying Tigers in August 2019. He continued to be a strong player in the CBA.
In September 2021, Zhou signed a two-year deal with the South East Melbourne Phoenix. This team plays in Australia's NBL. He played for the Phoenix for a season before returning to China in December 2022 for family reasons.
Zhou Qi joined the Guangdong Southern Tigers for the 2023-24 CBA season. As of 2024, he plays for the Beijing Ducks.
Representing China: National Team
Zhou Qi has proudly represented his country, China, in many international basketball competitions.
He first played for the senior Chinese national team at the 2014 Asian Games. In 2015, he helped China win the championship at the 2015 FIBA Asia Championship. In the final game against the Philippines, Zhou scored 16 points and grabbed 14 rebounds. He was also named to the All-Star Five team for that championship. Zhou later competed with the Chinese national team in the 2016 Summer Olympics.
