Zin Mar Aung (Burmese: ဇင်မာအောင်) was born on June 14, 1976. She is a politician and activist from Myanmar (also known as Burma). She is currently the Minister of Foreign Affairs for the National Unity Government of Myanmar. Before this, she was a Member of Parliament (MP) for Yankin Township from 2016 until 2021.

Early Life and School
Zin Mar Aung was born in Rangoon, a major city in Myanmar. She went to the University of Distance Education, Yangon and studied botany, which is the study of plants.
Political Journey and Activism
Zin Mar Aung became active in politics when she was a university student in the 1990s. She spoke out against the military government in Myanmar.
Standing Up for Change
In 1998, she was arrested during a peaceful protest. She had read a poem and a statement asking the military government to respect election results. She was put in prison for 11 years. For almost nine of those years, she was kept alone in a small room.
Helping Others After Prison
After being released in 2009, Zin Mar Aung continued her work to help her country. She started groups to support democracy and human rights.
- She created a group to show that Asian culture and democracy can work together.
- She also started a self-help group for women who had been political prisoners like her.
- She helped create the Yangon School of Political Science, which teaches young people about politics and how democracy works.

Zin Mar Aung has started several groups that focus on:
- Making democracy stronger.
- Helping women take a bigger part in public life.
- Encouraging different ethnic groups to live together peacefully.
- Giving help to people who were once political prisoners.
In 2012, she received the "International Women of Courage Award" from the U.S. Secretary of State, Hillary Rodham Clinton. This award honors women around the world who show great courage and leadership.
Serving as a Member of Parliament
In 2015, Zin Mar Aung ran for election in Yankin Township and won a seat in the House of Representatives. She won with many votes, showing that people supported her.
She was re-elected in the 2020 Myanmar general election. However, she was not allowed to take her seat because of a military takeover in 2021.
Role in the National Unity Government
After the military takeover in 2021, Zin Mar Aung became a member of the Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw. This committee was formed by elected lawmakers who were removed from power.

On March 2, 2021, the committee named her the Acting Union Minister of Foreign Affairs. This means she is in charge of Myanmar's relationships with other countries for the National Unity Government of Myanmar.
