Zinho was born in Nova Iguaçu, a city in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He played for several big Brazilian clubs. These included Flamengo, Palmeiras, Grêmio, Cruzeiro, and Nova Iguaçu.
He also played football outside of Brazil. He spent time with Yokohama Flügels in Japan and Miami FC in the United States. Zinho won many important championships with his clubs. He won the top Brazilian league, the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A, four times. He also won the Campeonato Carioca, a state championship, three times with Flamengo.
International Football: Playing for Brazil
One of Zinho's biggest achievements was being part of the Brazilian national team that won the 1994 FIFA World Cup. This is one of the most famous football tournaments in the world. He also played in the Copa América in 1993 and 1995. In 1995, his team finished as runners-up. Zinho also helped Brazil get third place in the 1998 CONCACAF Gold Cup.
