Zozocolco de Hidalgo is a special town and area (called a municipality) in the northwest part of Veracruz, a state in Mexico. It's about 100 kilometers (62 miles) away from Xalapa, which is the capital city of Veracruz. The whole area of Zozocolco is about 106 square kilometers (41 square miles).
In 2020, about 14,254 people lived in the municipality. The main town of Zozocolco de Hidalgo had about 3,794 residents. The local government is led by a Mayor, who helps run the town and surrounding areas.

What Does the Name Zozocolco Mean?
The name Zozocolco comes from an old language called Nahuatl. In Nahuatl, the word Xoxo-colco means "In the potter of clay." This suggests that making pottery from clay might have been important in the area a long time ago.
