Zsuzsa Körmöczy (born August 25, 1924, died September 16, 2006) was a famous tennis player from Hungary. She was one of the best women tennis players in the world, reaching the No. 2 spot in her career. Zsuzsa won a major tournament called the French Open in 1958 when she was 34 years old.

Zsuzsa Körmöczy was born in Budapest, Hungary. She was part of the Jewish community in Hungary.
Her Amazing Tennis Career
Zsuzsa started playing tennis at a young age. When she was just 16 years old in 1940, she won national titles in Hungary for doubles and mixed doubles. Later, she became the national singles champion six times. She also won 10 more national trophies in doubles or mixed doubles.
Reaching the Top in Tennis
Experts like Lance Tingay, a sports writer, ranked Zsuzsa among the top 10 tennis players in the world for several years. This included 1953, 1955, 1956, and then from 1958 through 1961. Her highest ranking was World No. 2 in 1958. This was a great achievement, especially since she was 34 years old at the time.
Winning the French Open
In 1958, Zsuzsa won the singles title at the French Championships. This was a huge victory for her. That same year, she also reached the semifinals at Wimbledon, another very important tennis tournament.
Because of her success, Zsuzsa was named Hungarian Sportswoman of the Year in 1958. She was the very first sportswoman to receive this special award. In 1958, she had an incredible year, winning eight out of nine tournaments she played in. In 1959, she was the runner-up at the French Open singles tournament.
After Her Playing Days
Zsuzsa stopped competing in tennis in 1964. After retiring, she became a coach for a sports club called Vasas. She also worked as a manager for Hungary's national tennis association. Later, after the fall of communism in Hungary, she received special awards from the new democratic governments in 1994 and 2003.
In 2007, after she passed away, Zsuzsa Körmöczy was honored by being added to the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame. This recognized her great achievements in tennis.
