Zulema de la Cruz was born in Madrid, Spain. She loved music from a young age. She studied piano and how to write music at the Madrid Conservatory. Her teachers included famous musicians like Carmelo Bernaola.

After finishing her studies, Zulema became a professor in 1988. She taught a special kind of music called electroacoustic composition at the Madrid Conservatory. This type of music uses electronic sounds and computers. She also taught at other schools, like the Carlos III University of Madrid. Zulema helped start a special lab at the Madrid Conservatory. It's called the Research Laboratory for Computer and Electroacoustic Composition (LICEO). She also led this important lab.
