The Zulia River (pronounced SOOL-yah) is an important river in South America. It flows through two countries: Venezuela and Colombia. This river is a branch, or tributary, of the larger Catatumbo River.
The Zulia River also forms a small part of the border between Colombia and Venezuela. It is about 310 kilometers (193 miles) long.

Where Does the Zulia River Start?
The Zulia River begins high up in the mountains. Its source is near a place called Apartaderos. This area is in Colombia.
The river starts at a very high elevation. It is about 4,220 meters (13,845 feet) above sea level. That's higher than many clouds!
Where Does the Zulia River End?
After its long journey, the Zulia River flows into the Catatumbo River. The Catatumbo River then empties into Lake Maracaibo in Venezuela.
What Rivers Flow Into the Zulia?
Smaller rivers join the Zulia River along its path. These are called tributaries. On its left side, the Peralonso River flows into the Zulia.
On its right side, two other rivers join it. These are the Táchira River and the Pamplonita River. These rivers add more water to the Zulia as it travels.
