Álvaro Pino Couñago was a professional road racing cyclist from Galicia, Spain. He was born on August 17, 1956. He raced bikes professionally from 1981 to 1991.
Álvaro Pino is best known for winning the overall title at the 1986 Vuelta a España. This was a huge win, as he beat famous cyclists like Robert Millar, Laurent Fignon, and Sean Kelly. The Vuelta a España is one of the three biggest cycling races in the world.
After his racing career, Pino became a directeur sportif. This is like a team manager for a cycling team. He helped guide professional teams from 2007 to 2010, including the Spanish team Xacobeo–Galicia.
