Alvaro Valera lived in Madrid in 2012. In 2013, he received a very special award. It was called the Silver Royal Order of Sports Merit. This award recognized his great achievements in sports.
His Table Tennis Career
Alvaro Valera has competed in many Paralympic Games. He played table tennis at the Paralympics in 2000, 2004, 2008, and 2012. These games are a huge event for athletes with disabilities.
Paralympic Achievements
Alvaro won a gold medal at the 2000 Sydney Paralympics. This was a very special moment for Spain. It was the only gold medal Spain had ever won in Paralympic table tennis.
At the 2008 Beijing Paralympics, Alvaro earned a bronze medal. He finished third in the Class 7 men's singles event.
In 2012, he competed at the London Paralympics. He won two silver medals there. One was in the Class 6 men's singles. The other was in the team event for Class 6–8 players.
Alvaro continued to compete and win medals. He earned a silver medal at the 2016 Rio Paralympics. This was in the Class 6 singles event. Most recently, he won a bronze medal at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics. This medal was for the team event in Class 6–7.
