Àngels Chacón was born in 1968 in Igualada, a town in Catalonia, Spain. She studied law at the University of Barcelona. She also became an expert in international trade, which means buying and selling goods between different countries.
Àngels Chacón's Career Journey
Before becoming a politician, Àngels Chacón worked in the business world. She was an export director for companies that made paper products. This means she helped these companies sell their products to other countries.
Working with Businesses
From 2008 to 2011, she was the general-secretary of the Anoia Business Union. This organization helps and represents many businesses in the Anoia region. She also helped with projects focused on economic growth and new ideas in health and business.
Entering Politics
Àngels Chacón started her political career in 2011. She ran as an independent candidate for the local elections in Igualada and was elected. After the election, she became the second deputy mayor. Her job was to help with the economy, trade, and tourism in Igualada.
She was re-elected in the 2015 local elections. This time, she became the first deputy mayor, focusing on the economy, new ideas, international connections, and local affairs. Later, she joined a political party called the Catalan European Democratic Party (PDeCAT).
Becoming a Government Minister
In May 2018, the new President of Catalonia, Quim Torra, chose Àngels Chacón to be a minister in his government. She was appointed as the Minister of Enterprise and Knowledge. This important role meant she was in charge of helping businesses grow and encouraging new ideas and learning in Catalonia. She officially started her role on June 2, 2018. She served in this position until September 2020.
