Ramon Tremosa i Balcells is an economist and politician from Catalonia, Spain. He was born in Barcelona on June 30, 1965. He teaches economics at the University of Barcelona. Tremosa has held important roles in politics. He was a Member of the European Parliament and a Minister in the Catalan government. He has also written several books about economics and politics.

Early Life and Education
Ramon Tremosa was born in Barcelona. His family came from Lleida, a city in Catalonia. His father was from Arenys de Noguera, and his mother was from el Poal.
He lived in Sant Boi de Llobregat, near Barcelona, until he was 15. He went to school there at Don-Bosco. Later, he moved to the Gracia area of Barcelona. He finished his school studies at La Salle.
University Studies
In 1992, Tremosa finished his first university degree at the University of Barcelona. While studying, he also worked in tax advice starting in 1987.
He continued his studies and earned a doctorate in 1999. His doctorate research looked at how money policies affected factories in Catalonia. He also completed a Master's degree in Applied Economic Analysis. This was at the Pompeu Fabra University in 1999.
Political Career
Ramon Tremosa became a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) in 2009. He ran as an independent candidate for the Catalan party Convergència i Unió (CiU). He was re-elected in 2014.
Work in the European Parliament
As an MEP, Tremosa worked on the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs. This committee deals with money and financial rules for Europe. He helped write important reports on how Europe's financial system should be watched. He also wrote reports about the European Central Bank and fair competition.
From 2009 to 2014, he also worked on the Committee on Transport and Tourism. Here, he discussed important transport projects like the Mediterranean Corridor. He also worked on rules for European railways and farming policies.
In 2014, Tremosa worked with another MEP, Andreas Schwab. They suggested that Google's search engine business should be separate from its other activities. This was to make sure there was fair competition online.
Later, from 2016 to 2017, Tremosa was part of a special committee. This committee investigated money laundering and tax avoidance schemes, including the Panama Papers.
Roles in Catalonia
After his time in the European Parliament, Ramon Tremosa continued his political career in Catalonia. From September 2020 to May 2021, he served as the Minister of Enterprise and Knowledge of Catalonia. In this role, he was part of the Catalan government.
He also became a Member of the Parliament of Catalonia in March 2021. He represented the Lleida area. Since June 2023, he has also been a Member of the Barcelona City Council.
Political Ideas
During his time in the European Parliament, Ramon Tremosa supported several key ideas. He strongly believed that the Catalan language should be officially used in European institutions. He also worked to ensure a minimum water flow for the Ebro river. Tremosa was also against monopolies, which he saw as a threat to a free market.
