Älmhult is a town in Kronoberg County, Sweden. It is the main town of Älmhult Municipality. In 2010, about 8,955 people lived there.

Älmhult and IKEA
Älmhult is famous for being the birthplace of IKEA. IKEA is a very well-known Swedish company that sells furniture. The very first IKEA store was built right here in Älmhult.

IKEA still has a big presence in Älmhult today. You can visit the IKEA Museum in the town. It opened on June 30, 2016. The museum shows the long history of IKEA. It's a great place to learn how the company grew.
The IKEA Hotel
Visitors to Älmhult can also stay at the IKEA Hotel. This hotel opened in 1964. It is located close to IKEA's offices. It is also across the street from the IKEA Museum.

The famous botanist Carl Linnaeus was born near Älmhult. He was born in a place called Råshult. This area is now part of Älmhult municipality. Linnaeus was known for creating the system we use to name plants and animals.

Haganässkolan is a special school. It is an International Baccalaureate (IB) authorized world school. Since August 2017, it has offered the IB Diploma Programme. This program is a challenging course of study. It helps students get ready for university. The school also has a year to prepare students for this program. It is called the Pre-Diploma Programme.
