Ängelholms FF is a football club from Ängelholm, Sweden. They play their home games at Ängelholms IP. The club started in 1976 when two older clubs, Ängelholms IF and Skörpinge GIF, joined together. Today, Ängelholms FF plays in Division 1, which is the third highest league in Swedish football.

Club History

Before Ängelholms FF was formed, there were two main football clubs in Ängelholm. Ängelholms IF started in 1905, and Skörpinge GIF began in 1950. Ängelholms IF was very successful in the 1930s. They played in Swedish Division 2 against big teams like Malmö FF and Helsingborgs IF.

Joining Forces

Over time, Skörpinge GIF also became very good. They started to compete with Ängelholms IF for the best young players in town. In 1975, both clubs realized something important. They thought that if they combined their strengths, Ängelholm could have a really strong professional football team. So, in 1976, they merged and created Ängelholms FF.

Climbing the Leagues

It took some time for the new club to achieve great success. But between 1997 and 2001, Ängelholms FF made amazing progress. They moved up from Division 4 all the way to Superettan. Superettan is the second highest league in Sweden.

After a short time, the club went back down to Division 2. Then, they were promoted to the new third-tier league, Division 1. In their second season there, they were promoted again! This meant they were back in Superettan for the second time. In 2008, Ängelholms FF reached their highest position ever. They finished 5th in Superettan, which was a fantastic achievement.

A Difficult Time

In late 2016, the club faced a very tough challenge. They had financial problems and applied for bankruptcy. This meant the club might have to close down. However, in January 2017, good news arrived. The club was saved from bankruptcy and could continue playing!
