Ånge Municipality (which in Swedish is Ånge kommun) is a special area in northern Sweden. It's like a local government district in Västernorrland County. The main town, or 'seat,' where the local government offices are, is called Ånge.
Long ago, in 1947, the town of Ånge became a special 'market town' because it was an important railway hub. It was separated from another area called Borgsjö. Later, in 1971, Ånge and Borgsjö joined back together. They also teamed up with two other areas, Haverö and Torp. This is how the Ånge Municipality we know today was created!
For many years, Ånge Municipality was famous for its slogan: Sweden's geographical center. Experts from the Royal Institute of Technology measured it in 1947. They found the exact center was near Lake Munkby (Munkbysjön) in the eastern part of the municipality. In 2002, the slogan changed to Wonderful byways.
About 13 kilometers east of the town of Ånge, you'll find the town of Borgsjö. It has a beautiful rococo church from the 1700s. People really admire its design!
