Kids Encyclopedia Facts

The École Supérieure de Cuisine Française (which means Higher School of French Cuisine) is a special school in Paris, France. It's often called ESCF Ferrandi. This school teaches students how to become amazing chefs and how to manage hotels and restaurants.

It was started by the Paris Chamber of Commerce and Industry, a group that helps businesses in Paris. ESCF Ferrandi is part of a bigger school called École Grégoire-Ferrandi. In 2005, the school created a special class called Atelier Pierre Hermé. This class teaches students the amazing skills and recipes of the famous French pastry chef, Pierre Hermé.

How the School Started

The school we know today as Ferrandi began in 1932. The Paris Chamber of Commerce and Industry opened it as their first "workshop school." Its main goal was to teach people professional skills for working with food.

Later, in 1983, the school started the École Supérieure de Cuisine Française program. This program focused even more on high-level French cooking. Then, in 1997, the Ferrandi School joined with another school called the Grégoire School. The Grégoire School taught skills like craftsmanship and interior design. Together, they became what is now known as École Grégoire Ferrandi.
