Ólöf Nordal (born December 3, 1966 – died February 8, 2017) was an Icelandic politician. She was the Minister of the Interior of Iceland from 2014 to 2017. This important job involves looking after things like police, immigration, and local government. Ólöf Nordal was a member of the Independence Party, which is one of Iceland's main political groups.

Early Life and Education
Ólöf Nordal grew up in Reykjavík, Iceland. She finished high school at Reykjavík Upper Secondary School in 1986.
She continued her studies at the University of Iceland, where she earned a law degree in 1994. Later, in 2002, she received an MBA (Master of Business Administration) from Reykjavík University. An MBA is a special degree that teaches you how to manage businesses.
Political Career and Public Service
Before she became a politician, Ólöf Nordal worked in different jobs. She was a teacher and a lawyer. She also worked in government administration.
Early Public Service Roles
From 1996 to 1999, Ólöf worked as a department head in the Ministry of Transport and Communications. This ministry deals with things like roads, public transport, and communication systems.
After that, she worked as a lawyer for the Iceland Stock Exchange from 1999 to 2001. She also taught law at Bifröst University from 1999 to 2002. At Bifröst, she was in charge of the Business Law Department.
Leadership in Energy Companies
Between 2002 and 2004, Ólöf Nordal was the head of wholesale business at Landsvirkjun. This is Iceland's national power company. She also worked as the director of sales at RARIK – Iceland State Electricity.
While she was at RARIK, the company's electricity sales part became a separate company called Orkusalan. Ólöf became the managing director of Orkusalan and worked there until 2006.
Becoming a Member of Parliament
In 2007, Ólöf Nordal was elected to the Parliament of Iceland. The Althing is Iceland's national assembly, where laws are made. She was a Member of Parliament for the Northeast Constituency from 2007 to 2009.
Then, from 2009 to 2013, she represented the Reykjavík Constituency South. As a Member of Parliament, she helped make decisions for the country.
Minister of the Interior
Ólöf Nordal became the Minister of the Interior on December 4, 2014. She held this important role until January 11, 2017.
Mention in Panama Papers
Ólöf Nordal's name appeared in the Panama Papers. These were leaked documents that showed how some people had connections to companies in other countries. Ólöf Nordal stated that she was "utterly surprised" to find her name on that list.
Personal Life
Ólöf Nordal was married to Tómas Már Sigurðsson. They had four children together.
Sadly, Ólöf Nordal passed away from cancer on February 8, 2017, when she was 50 years old.
