The Şakirin Mosque is a beautiful mosque located in Istanbul, Turkey. You can find it near the entrance of the Karacaahmet Cemetery in Üsküdar. The Semiha Şakir Foundation built this mosque to honor İbrahim Şakir and Semiha Şakir. It first opened on May 7, 2009. Many people believe it is one of the most eco-friendly mosques in all of Turkey.

Building the Şakirin Mosque
The main architect for the Şakirin Mosque was Hüsrev Tayla. He is also famous for his work on the Kocatepe Mosque in Ankara. He also helped protect old buildings.
A Woman's Touch in Design
The person who designed the inside of the mosque was Zeynep Fadıllıoğlu. She is a great-niece of Semiha Şakir. News reports say she was the first woman to design the interior of a mosque. She was also the first woman to design a mosque in modern Turkey. This was a very important step!
How the Mosque Was Built
It took four years to build the Şakirin Mosque. The entire area of the mosque is about 10,000 square meters. That's a huge space!
The mosque has two tall minarets. Each minaret stands 35 meters high. The main dome is made from a special aluminum material.
Inside the Mosque
The inside of the Şakirin Mosque is full of amazing details.
Art and Light
The beautiful writing on the inside of the dome is called calligraphy. It was created by an artist named Semih İrteş.
Large windows let in lots of light. These windows are on three sides of the prayer hall. Orhan Koçan designed them.
Special Features
The minbar is like a pulpit where the imam stands. It is made from a clear material called acrylic. Tayfun Erdoğmuş designed this unique minbar.
You can see decorative patterns all around the mosque. These designs come from old Seljuk art.
There is a very large and special chandelier. It has glass globes shaped like water drops. These globes were made by Nahide Büyükkaymakçı. They are meant to show that Allah's light falls on people like rain.
The area for women is designed so they can easily see this beautiful chandelier.
Outside the Mosque
In the courtyard, there is a lovely fountain. William Pye designed this fountain.
The mosque is built above a parking garage. It also has a special area for exhibitions.
