100 Washington Square is a tall office building located in downtown Minneapolis. It stands 332 feet (101 meters) high. This building has 22 floors and covers a huge area of 481,600 square feet. It was built between 1979 and 1981. In 2020, it was the 28th tallest building in Minneapolis.
Who Designed This Building?
A famous architect named Minoru Yamasaki designed 100 Washington Square. He also designed the Northwestern National Life Building in Minneapolis. You might know him for designing the original World Trade Center in New York City.
Special Design Features
Just like the World Trade Center, 100 Washington Square has a special design. Its outside walls are made of strong steel beams placed close together. These beams help hold up the building. This means there's no need for many support columns inside. This design makes the inside spaces feel more open.
Connected by Skyway
This building is connected to other places by a special walkway called a skyway. You can walk from 100 Washington Square to the Churchill Apartments and The Crossings without going outside!
Who Owns It Now?
In 2015, a company called Shorenstein bought 100 Washington Square. They also bought two other buildings that are part of the Washington Square area. The biggest company that rents space in 100 Washington Square is ING.
