What Makes 1180 Peachtree Special?
This building was designed by Pickard Chilton, an architecture firm from Connecticut. It includes many special features that help the environment. Because of these features, it earned a gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. This award is called Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED).
The building has two large glass fins that go up from its north and south sides. At night, these fins light up from the inside. This makes the building look very dramatic against the night sky. Some people think it gives the building a "Gothic" style.
Kendall/Heaton Associates, Inc. from Houston, Texas, also worked on the design. Turner Construction was the company that built it.
Who Uses the Building?
A big law firm called King & Spalding uses most of the office space in 1180 Peachtree. This firm has its main office here. Before moving to 1180 Peachtree, they were in another building downtown.
Future Plans for the Area
The 1180 Peachtree building was planned to be like a bell tower for a new music center. This center, called the Atlanta Symphony Center, is part of the Woodruff Arts Center. A famous Spanish architect named Santiago Calatrava designed it. The new music center was planned to be built next to 1180 Peachtree. However, construction for the $300 million Symphony Center has not started yet. It will only begin when enough money is raised.
