The 13th Government of Slovenia was a group of leaders who ran the country of Slovenia from September 2018 to March 2020. It was led by Prime Minister Marjan Šarec. This government was special because it was the first "minority government" in Slovenia's history. A minority government means that the political parties forming the government did not have enough votes on their own to pass laws easily. They needed help from other parties.
Prime Minister Šarec resigned on January 27, 2020. This meant the 13th Government's term ended. Šarec was the fourth Prime Minister in Slovenia to resign before their term was over.

How the Government Was Formed
After the parliamentary elections on June 3, 2018, Marjan Šarec, who led the LMŠ party, started talking with other parties. These parties were SD, SMC, SAB, and DeSUS. They wanted to form a "coalition," which is a group of parties working together.
Building a Coalition
At first, another party called New Slovenia (NSi) joined the talks. They hoped to create a strong group with enough votes (at least 46) to easily pass laws. However, NSi later left the talks. This meant that for the first time, there was no clear candidate for Prime Minister right away.
Then, Marjan Šarec's group started talking with The Left party. The Left decided not to join the government directly. Instead, they agreed to support the new government from the opposition. This meant they would vote for important laws, but not be part of the government itself.
Electing the Prime Minister
On August 8, 2018, the parties supporting Marjan Šarec officially put him forward as a candidate for Prime Minister. It was not certain if he had enough votes. But on August 10, the parties and The Left signed an agreement. This agreement made sure Šarec had enough support to be elected.
On August 17, Marjan Šarec was elected Prime Minister. He then had 15 days to choose his team of ministers.
Choosing the Ministers
On August 20, the leaders of the parties met to decide which party would lead which government department (ministry). For example, DeSUS took charge of the Ministry of Agriculture. SD was responsible for Culture and Education. SMC handled Economic Development, Environment, and Labour. SAB took Infrastructure and Slovenian diaspora. LMŠ, as the leading party, got Finance, Health, Interior, and Public Administration.
On August 29, 2018, the leaders officially signed an agreement to form the new government. They announced that the list of ministers would be given to the National Assembly on August 31.
The National Assembly started listening to the 16 minister candidates on September 4. One candidate for Public Administration, Tugomir Kodelja, was replaced by Rudi Medved on September 7.
Finally, on September 13, 2018, the 13th Government of Slovenia was officially elected. It received 45 votes in favor.
Government Team
The government was made up of five main parties. Another party also supported them from outside the government.
