144 Edward Street, Brisbane is a tall office building in the heart of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. It stands at the corner of Edward and Charlotte streets. This building is a skyscraper, meaning it's very high.
It was first planned in 1978 and built in 1980. Its first name was the National Mutual Centre. Over the years, it changed names to the Axa Australia Centre and then to 144 Edward Street, Brisbane. Today, a company called Precision Group owns it.
This building is 82 meters (about 269 feet) tall. It has 26 floors above the ground. There are also two levels underground for parking, with space for 75 cars. The building covers a large area of 16,097 square meters (about 173,266 square feet).
Building History
In the late 1970s, a company called National Mutual Life Association of Australasia wanted a new building. They hired architects and engineers to design it. The building was designed in a modern style popular at the time.
When it was finished in 1980, it was named the National Mutual Centre. National Mutual moved their offices into the building.
Later, in 1999, another company called Axa took over the National Mutual Centre. They renamed it the Axa Australia Centre.
A few years after that, in 2002, Precision Group bought the building. They paid $44.65 million for it. Since then, it has been known as 144 Edward Street, Brisbane.
