Building History
How the Land Was Acquired
Building 1 Lincoln Plaza was a big project. A man named Paul Milstein wanted to build it. He needed to buy many properties first. One of these was a five-story building. It was owned by Jehiel R. Elyachar.
Paul Milstein tried to buy this building. He offered cash and another building. They talked for a long time. In the end, they could not agree. So, the building at 33 West 63rd Street stayed.
Building Around an Existing Structure
The other buildings around it were taken down. Then, 1 Lincoln Plaza was built. It was built around Elyachar's building. This means the old building was not removed. It became part of the new complex.
Multiple Addresses for One Building
