The 2011 Myanmar earthquake was a strong earthquake that happened on March 24, 2011. It had a magnitude of 6.9, which means it was quite powerful. The earthquake's center, called the hypocenter (the point deep inside the Earth where the quake starts), was about 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) deep.
This earthquake happened in Shan State, a region in Myanmar (also known as Burma). After the main quake, there were two smaller quakes, known as aftershocks. One aftershock had a magnitude of 4.8, and the other was 5.4. The main earthquake's starting point was about 70 miles (110 kilometers) from the city of Chiang Rai in northern Thailand.

The earthquake caused damage in several countries, including Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, China, and Vietnam. Sadly, 151 people lost their lives, and 212 people were injured. Many homes and buildings were damaged or destroyed, especially in Shan State. The shaking was strong enough to be felt across a wide area.
