The Roman Emperors of the 80s AD

During the 80s AD, the Roman Empire was a vast and powerful state. It stretched across Europe, North Africa, and parts of Asia. The emperor was the most important person, leading the army and making all the big decisions.

Emperor Titus (79–81 AD)

Titus became Roman Emperor in 79 AD. He was the son of Emperor Vespasian, who started the Flavian family's rule. Titus was known for being a kind and fair ruler. He was very popular with the Roman people.

During his short time as emperor, a big disaster happened: the volcano Mount Vesuvius erupted in 79 AD. This buried the cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum. Titus quickly sent help and money to the people affected. He also finished building the famous Colosseum in Rome, which was a huge arena for public shows. Titus died in 81 AD, and his brother Domitian took over.

Emperor Domitian (81–96 AD)

Domitian became emperor after his brother Titus died in 81 AD. He ruled for 15 years, which was a much longer time than Titus. Domitian was a strong ruler who wanted to make the Roman Empire even more powerful.

Domitian was very involved in how the empire was run. He made sure that laws were followed and that people paid their taxes. He also spent a lot of money on building projects in Rome, like temples and public buildings. He was a good administrator and kept the empire stable.

Domitian also led the Roman army in some battles, especially along the borders of the empire. He worked to protect Rome from outside threats. However, as his rule went on, he became less popular with some powerful people in Rome. He was eventually killed in 96 AD, which ended the Flavian family's time as emperors.
