Añasco Arriba Barrio is a neighborhood located in the municipality of Añasco, Puerto Rico. In 2010, about 1,570 people lived there. It is one of the many areas that make up the town of Añasco.
A Look Back: History of Añasco Arriba
Puerto Rico used to belong to Spain. After the Spanish–American War in 1898, Spain gave Puerto Rico to the United States. This happened because of a peace agreement called the Treaty of Paris of 1898.
Since then, Puerto Rico has been an "unincorporated territory" of the United States. This means it is part of the U.S. but does not have all the same rights as a U.S. state.
In 1899, the United States Department of War counted the people in Puerto Rico. They found that Añasco Arriba and a nearby area called Añasco Abajo had a combined population of 1,027 people.
