Albert Jay "A. J." English was born on July 11, 1967. He is a former professional basketball player from the United States. He played for two seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA). A. J. English is also the father of another basketball player, A. J. English III.

A. J. English's Early Basketball Career
High School Success
A. J. English played basketball at Howard High School of Technology in Delaware. He was on the team from 1983 to 1986. In 1985, his team won the State Championship. The next year, in 1986, he was named the Delaware High School Player of the Year.
College Achievements
After high school, English played basketball for Virginia Union University. He was a key player for their team from 1986 to 1990. In 1990, he received a big award. He was named the NCAA Division II National Player of the Year. This award goes to the best college basketball player in Division II.
Playing in the NBA
Joining the Washington Bullets
A. J. English was chosen in the 1990 NBA draft. The Washington Bullets picked him in the second round. He was the 37th player chosen overall.
English played for the Bullets for two seasons. During his time with the team, he scored an average of 9.9 points per game.
After the Bullets
After playing for the Washington Bullets, English signed a contract with the Portland Trail Blazers. This happened on October 1, 1993. However, he was released by the team on November 2, 1993. He did not play in the NBA again after this.
