Albert Jay "A. J." English (born July 11, 1967) is a former professional basketball player from the United States. He played for two seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA). A. J. English is also the father of another basketball player, A. J. English III.
Playing Basketball in College
A. J. English played basketball for Howard High School of Technology from 1983 to 1986. His team won the State Championship in 1985. In 1986, he was named the Delaware High School Player of the Year.
After high school, he played for Virginia Union University from 1986 to 1990. In 1990, he was recognized as the NCAA Division II National Player of the Year. This is a big award for college basketball players.
NBA Career Highlights
The Washington Bullets picked A. J. English in the 1990 NBA draft. He was the 37th player chosen overall.
English played for the Bullets for two seasons. During his time there, he scored about 9.9 points in each game. He also played for other teams outside the NBA, including teams in Europe.
Awards and Recognition
In 2004, A. J. English was honored by the Delaware Sports Museum and Hall of Fame. He was inducted for his achievements in basketball.
