Ambazhathil Karunakaran Lohithadas (born May 10, 1955 – died June 28, 2009) was a very talented Indian writer, director, and producer. He mostly worked in the Malayalam film industry. He was known for his amazing screenplays and films that often showed real-life stories and emotions.
In his career, which lasted over two decades, his films won many important awards. These included a National Film Award, six Kerala State Film Awards, and fourteen Kerala Film Critics Awards.
Lohithadas started his film journey as a screenwriter with the movie Thaniyavarthanam (1987). He wrote scripts for 35 films in 24 years. Some of his famous screenplays include Kireedam (1989), Bharatham (1991), and Sallapam (1996). Later, he also became a director. His first film as a director was Bhoothakkannadi (1997). He also wrote and directed movies like Kanmadam (1998) and Joker (2000). He passed away on June 28, 2009, due to a heart attack.

Early Life of Lohithadas
Lohithadas, often called 'Lohi' by his friends and colleagues, was born on May 5, 1955. His birthplace was Chalakudy in the Thrissur district of Kerala. His parents were Ambazhathuparambil Karunakaran and Lakshmi.
Lohithadas's Film Career
Lohi's first movie script was for Thaniyavarthanam. This film was directed by Sibi Malayil. Lohithadas and Sibi Malayil worked together on many successful Malayalam movies.
Screenwriter Success
Lohithadas wrote many popular screenplays for Sibi Malayil. These include Dasharatham (1989), Kireedam (1989), and Bharatham (1990). He also wrote for other famous directors. For example, he wrote Sasneham (1990) for Sathyan Anthikkad. He also wrote Amaram (1991) and Venkalam (1991) for director Bharathan.
Becoming a Director
Later in his career, Lohithadas started directing films himself. His first movie as a director was Bhoothakkannadi (1997). He went on to direct other well-known films. These include Kanmadam (1998), Joker (2000), and Kasthooriman (2003). He even produced Kasthooriman himself.
Most of his films were very popular and also praised by critics. His talent was recognized right from his first movie, Thaniyavarthanam. For this film, he won the Kerala State Film Award for Best Story.
Passing Away
Lohithadas passed away suddenly on June 28, 2009. He was 54 years old. He had a heart attack at his home in Aluva. His body was taken to his home in Lakkidi for his funeral. He was cremated with full state honors. He is survived by his wife, Sindhu, and his two sons, Harikrishnan and Vijayashankar.
